COLT: - Content Oriented Language Teaching
Sahodaya is a concept literally meaning 'rising together' developed by CBSE. It came into existence in the year 1986, to facilitate synergy of ideas among the schools of CBSE, for excellence in education. Sahodaya School complex is a group of neighbourhood schools willingly coming together to share their innovative practices in all aspects of school education.
'Learning is a Life long Journey'- believing in the same, on 27th October, 2012'Swaminarayan Vidyapith', the Girls Residential School at Karamsad, organized a workshop for English Teachers of the Central Gujarat Sahodaya School Complex. The theme of the workshop was 'Content Oriented Language Teaching in the 21st Century Schools.' Around 15 schools registered for the workshop and 44 English Language teachers participated in it.
"Unless the lamp is lit, we cannot light others." The resource person, Prof. Sulabha Natraj, the Principal of Waymade College of Education, V.V. Nagar, set the celestial fire in teachers to be 'great teachers' who inspire their children. She reiterated through activities and audio visual aids that English can be a link language across all cultures, countries and courses. Moreover, language is basic to all kinds of thinking: perceptual, conceptual, critical, creative, reflective and associative. By virtue of being a tool for thinking and concept formation, language teaching becomes an interdisciplinary subject. Language development does not take place in a piecemeal fashion. We learn to speak about what we think and vice versa.
But one thing was as clear as crystal that teachers are the 'kingpins' of the Educational Institutions and so have to go down to the seas and steer the realm of knowledge to make children under their care "Once learners …………….. forever seekers."
